HPE has made release 10.6.0 for the Alletra Storage MP B10000 generally available, taking the array from four controller nodes to six, adding agent based support automation and native ransomware detection, and raising the StoreMore capacity guarantee to 5:1.
What was announced
- Release 10.6.0, which HPE also calls Release 6, is now generally available, inside the Q3 2026 window HPE set when it previewed the release in May 2026.
- A B10000 cluster can now grow from one node to six in single node increments; HPE claims a 50 percent performance increase over the previous four node maximum and says a six node cluster survives two simultaneous node failures without a service interruption.
- Switchless two node configurations can convert to a switched cluster without disruption.
- HPE raises the StoreMore Guarantee effective capacity ratio to 5:1, up from 4:1. The ratio is workload dependent and set out in HPE programme documentation.
- The release adds agent based support automation for detection, analysis, recommendation and remediation, with remediation applied only on administrator approval, plus real time ransomware detection on both the block and file paths.
- HPE cites 40 percent TCO savings and 45 percent lower energy consumption against a traditional scale-up array. Those figures are HPE's own substantiation, not third party testing.
- The B10000 does not replace the Alletra Storage MP X10000, which remains HPE's object platform for high bandwidth AI, machine learning and EDA pipelines.
The ETON view
The point of a disaggregated design is that you stop buying performance and capacity as a bundle. Going to six nodes in single node steps means a platform bought for a 2026 workload can absorb a 2028 one without a forklift, and that changes how you should size the first purchase. Buy for the workload in front of you and leave the headroom to a later node, rather than paying now for controllers that idle for two years.
Treat the vendor numbers as vendor numbers. The 50 percent performance step, the 40 percent TCO claim and the 5:1 guarantee all come from HPE's own substantiation, and a data reduction ratio is only as good as your data. Databases and already compressed media will not hit the same ratio as general virtual machine estates, so size raw capacity on your measured reduction rate, not on the guarantee.
For most buyers the harder question is what happens to the existing array. HPE's scale-out story is genuinely useful, but so is the fact that the previous generation of block and file hardware now hits the secondary market in volume. ETON sells both sides of that: current Alletra Storage MP capacity and shelves where the lead time works, refurbished and certified renewed HPE storage where the budget matters more than the badge, and buyback on what you are displacing. Vendor neutral means we will tell you when the right answer is another node on the array you already own.
